As a measure of civil resistance and an expression of their "moral outrage'', faculty members of the Jamia Millia decided not to attend any function organised by the U.S. embassy, the American Centre and the British High Commission. Placing on record their "unequivocal condemnation of the U.S.-led aggression on Iraq'', they resolved not to welcome any representative of the U.S. and British establishments to the campus. Meanwhile, several leading advocates have condemned the "U.S.-led aggression on Iraq'' and described it as "unprovoked, unjustified and violative of international law and the United Nations Charter''. They urged the United Nations and the Security Council to take immediate steps to "end the aggression by sending peacekeeping forces and calling the aggressors to account''. Also, according to the advocates, the aggressors ought to be made to pay for the damage they have caused to Iraq. This, they said, was the minimum obligation of the U.N. to a country they had forcibly disarmed and weakened with 12 years of economic sanctions. Besides, they urged India to demand that the U.S. and the U.K. immediately cease the military campaign and withdraw their forces from Iraq. The signatories to the statement include Shanti Bhushan, Anil Divan, P.P. Rao, Rajinder Sachar, Rajeev Dhavan, Kamini Jaiswal, Kapil Sibal and Prashant Bhushan.
