A party release here said that the Union Minister, T.R. Baalu, took up the affidavit issue both at the NDA's brain-storming session and separately with the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and Law Minister. The Law Minister clarified to him that the affidavit was contrary to the Centre's stand on the issue and the speech of Mr. Vaiko in the public meeting, based on which he has been arrested under POTA, will not attract the provisions of the Act, the release added. On instructions from the DMK president, M. Karunanidhi, the matter pertaining to the affidavit filed by the Centre in the Vaiko case, was raised by Mr. Baalu.
