A three-Judge Bench, comprising the Chief Justice, V.N. Khare, Justice Y.K. Sabharwal and Justice Arijit Pasayat, asked the sponsor, LG Electronics India Pvt. Ltd, which had gone on appeal, to file its objections to the petition by N.K.P. Salve and others in the High Court. The Bench asked the High Court to hear the matter expeditiously, uninfluenced by the observations of the apex court during the previous hearings. Appearing for the sponsors, senior counsel, Ashok Desai, said the High Court's interim order interfered with contractual obligations between the BCCI and the International Cricket Council (ICC) and was, therefore, bad in law. On January 22, the High Court had directed the Centre and the Reserve Bank of India not to release foreign exchange, either in the form of sponsorship money or as damages, to the ICC, if it debarred India from playing in the championship or imposed penalty or damages on the players or the BCCI. On appeal, the apex court, on January 31, allowed the major sponsors, including LG Electronics, to remit foreign exchange for the tournament and said it would be subject to the final orders of the court.
