dated April 12, 1953: Peron's troubles

President Peron of Argentina seemed to be facing misfortunes in battalions. His wife Eva's brother, Senor Juan Duarte, first submitted his resignation from the post of Secretary to the President. Two days later, on the 11th he committed suicide, and his body was found in his flat in Buenos Aires, with a bullet wound in the head. Senator Duarte had resigned as he could not bring himself to carry out a policy proposed by President Peron to cut wages and reduce the costs in a bid to curb inflation. Following the Duarte resignation, the Minister of Labour and Social Security, Senor Jose Maria Freyre, too quit the Government. Three other ministers soon followed suit.
