Swati lived up to her reputation of being an unpredictable performer by pulling off a surprising 55-move over World Cup winner Xu Yuhua on the second board for India `B.' But her teammates S. Meenakshi and Bhagyashree Thipsay, playing with white pieces, could not brighten up things further and China maintained itself on the top with 11 points after five rounds. In the men's section, too, China extended its occupation of the top table with a 3-1 drubbing of Kazakhstan and reached 14 points. Ye Jiangchaun, the Chinese spearhead, regained his winning touch against Darmen Sadvakosov, to led his team's emphatic victory. India `C', the surprise winner of the fifth round after its 3-1 triumph over India `B', moved to the second spot with 12.5 points. Vietnam, which held India `A' 2-2 after Dao Thien Hai stunned K. Sasikiran, is next with 12 points. India `C' was the surprise winner of the fifth round after its 3-1 triumph over India `B'. The Vietnamese women prevailed over Kazakhstan 2-1 to remain a point behind China. If Vietnam finds itself half-a-point ahead of India `A', it should thank India `C'. India `A', held by Vietnam in the morning after S. Vijayalakshmi committed two positional blunders to lose to Hoang Thanh Trang, found the going equally tough against India `C'. Playing without Vijaylakshmi, India `A' scored through Aarthie Ramaswamy on the second board against Saheli Dhar-Barua before Saimeera Ravi overpowered D. Harika in the battle of `reserves' to draw level. Meanwhile, Nisha Mohota was lucky to escape with a draw against Eesha Karavade on the top board.
