Tension over Dalit's death

By Our Staff Reporter

KAMAVARAPUKOTA APRIL 12. An angry mob of villagers, mostly Dalits, held up the convoy of the Minister for Major Industries, K. Vidyadhara Rao, here on Saturday in protest against the alleged killing of a Dalit servant by an upper caste landlord.

The protesters pitched a tent across the Eluru-Jangareddygudem road, placed the body of the victim, K. Panchala (40), under it and squatted on the road, along with the bereaved family members.

Mr. Rao, who was on a visit to his constituency, lost cool and admonished the organisers for `instigating' gullible people.

Traffic on the highway was affected for over five hours on account of the road blockade.

Panchala of Ramannapalem was found dead under suspicious circumstances on Friday evening in a poultry farm of K. Rambabu, where he has been working for the past one year. He is survived by his wife and three children. According to the victim's brother, there were bruises on the chest and abdomen. He alleged that the police were not registering a case.
