Letters to the Editor
Sir, In his letter (April 12), Amit Goyal says that ``the U.S. does not follow old concepts like imperialism or empire. It has no intention of taking over Iraq or pumping oil out of greed.'' This is not true. The U.S. has already taken over Iraq and has declared that the U.N. will not be allowed to play a major role in managing post-war Iraq, but, instead, a U.S. army general is going to run the country. In Afghanistan, the U.S. installed a man, who was formerly an employee of an American oil company, as the head of that country. Contracts for reconstruction of Iraq have already been awarded by the U.S. government to companies such as Halliburton and Brown, Arrow and Root which were formerly headed by the American Vice-President. If that's not imperialism, empire and greed, I don't know what is. Arul Francis, California, U.S.
