Letters to the Editor
Sir, This has reference to the Editorials `Pulling down the past' (April 7) and `Two birds with one stone' (April, 11) . We, the Tamils living in America, are pained to read about the happenings in Tamil Nadu. The Queen Mary's College is not only an old but, a golden institution which deserves to be preserved for posterity. We fervently hope that the proposed demolition will not be carried out, thanks to the voice of protest by the press, the general public and the student community. `Two birds with one stone' sadly reflects the vengeful attitude of the powers that be. Like the Greek tragedy, the graphic description of the happenings in the Assembly (Opposition MLAs evicted en masse, arrested' - April 11) is a revelation of the emerging political scenario in the State. Harassment of the press, midnight arrest of political opponents due to personal vendetta, huge expenditure on public functions etc do not bode well. Narendran, Texas, U.S.
