Cricket
The newspaper quoted unidentified sources close to Tendulkar as saying he hurt his hand during India's recent tour of New Zealand and the injury was aggravated during the World Cup, in which India reached the final, but lost to Australia. Tendulkar played through pain to score 673 runs and be named Man of the Tournament. The Indian cricket board had announced on March 31 that Tendulkar would skip the April 11-30 series in Dhaka, which includes South Africa and host Bangladesh, because he needed two weeks to recover from a finger injury. No mention of surgery was made at that time. AP
