CM seeks to pacify Cabinet colleagues

By Our Correspondent

IMPHAL APRIL 17. The Manipur Chief Minister, Okram Ibobi, has criticised his Cabinet colleagues, who have launched a frontal attack on him for not releasing departmental funds. Mr. Ibobi, who is facing an ouster campaign, appealed to them not to be offended by the delay.

On Tuesday night, the Ministers gathered at the Chief Minister's Office and demanded that the funds be released immediately.

The former Chief Minister and Rajya Sabha member, Rishang Keishing, has also come out with a scathing attack against Mr. Ibohi. The former Chief Minister said that it was against the principle of the Congress party to allow a man to hold two posts. (Mr. Ibohi also holds the PCC chief post).

The CPI, which is a partner of the ruling Secular People's Front Ministry, is not pleased with the style of functioning of the Government, and the Opposition parties have asked the CPI to dissociate itself from the SPF. All the five CPI MLAs are Ministers.

There are 16 Cabinet Ministers, 13 Ministers of State (independent charge) and five Ministers of State. Mr. Ibohi is likely to induct two more Ministers in the next expansion slated for April 20.
