Only talks could resolve Ayodhya issue: Kanchi Acharya

Panaji April 20. Favouring talks between Hindu and Muslim leaders to resolve the Ram temple row, Jayendra Saraswati of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham today said that neither the on-going excavations at the disputed site in Ayodhya nor the ban on the display of `trishul' (trident) would help solve the contentious issue.

Addressing mediapersons here, he said the Ayodhya issue could be resolved only through a dialogue between Hindu and Muslim leaders.

Excavations have been carried out many times in the past but did not yield concrete results. Referring to the ban on `trishul', the Acharya said it stands as the symbol of Lord Shiva, the destroyer of evil, and the Hindus never looked at trident as a weapon anytime.
