Vohra begins his mission in Kashmir

SRINAGAR APRIL 21. The Central Government's interlocutor on Kashmir, N. N. Vohra, today arrived here on a six-day-visit to further his "political mission'' to break the deadlock on the Kashmir problem.

After his arrival, Mr. Vohra confined himself to the State guest house and did not meet any political party leaders or individuals or the media.

A report said he spent some time playing golf.

It is said that he would be meeting the cross-section of people, but confusion prevails over his engagements in Kashmir over the next few days.

Mr. Vohra is understood to have extended an invitation to the National Conference, the Congress and other parties and has said that he is open to meeting any group or individual. The NC president, Omar Abdullah, said "we are not meeting him voluntarily but his office has fixed the meeting."

Mr. Abdullah further said that there was a need for interaction with those who were disillusioned with the mainstream.

The NC delegation was scheduled to meet Mr. Vohra tomorrow but due to the death of its senior leader, Bodh Raj Bali, in Jammu, the meeting may take place later.

The separatist camp is silent over Mr. Vohra's visit.

A senior leader said the separatists were waiting for his invitation and would discuss the issue accordingly.
