S.K. Sinha, a retired Lieutenant General and till recently the Governor of Assam, is to succeed G.C. Saxena as the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. The term of office of Governor is due to expire in Delhi, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab. Highly-placed Government sources said the names of Kailashpathi Mishra of Bihar and Pyarlelal Khandelwal of Delhi, senior BJP party functionaries had almost been finalised and an announcement was expected in a day or two. The names of two other politicians also figure for the remaining two posts.
