The Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam Charitable Trust has purchased the erstwhile Tamilnadu Hospitals for Rs.15.50 crores and named it Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Sankara Hospital. Ms. Jayalalithaa had discussions with the Sankaracharyas, Jayendra Saraswati and Sankara Vijayendra Saraswati, in the hospital. Talking to mediapersons after the function, Acharya Jayendra Saraswati said the trust had so far spent Rs. 20 crores for the purchase of the hospital (situated on 48 acres with 1.50 lakh sq.ft. built- up area) and for providing various amenities. Another Rs. 25 crores would be spent for providing all equipments and modern facilities and making it a full-fledged multispeciality hospital from June 1. Patients would be treated for two hours from Monday, and from May 10, vans would be sent to nearby villages and treatment given to patients. From June 1, it would function as a 150-bed multispeciality hospital, he said. Poor patients would be given concession and the cost of treatment would be ``reasonable'' compared to other hospitals.
