In hitting his unbeaten 170, Rudolph overtook compatriot Andrew Hudson's century and highest 163 runs on the debut he made in 1992 against the West Indies. Rudolph and Dippenaar (131) featured in an unbroken 323-run stand, tumbling the 1999 South African record of 315-run partnership held by Jacques Kallis and Herschelle Gibbs. They also became the first South African pair and the seventh in the game's history to bat throughout a day without being separated.
