Police flash computer images of jewel shop killers

By Our Staff Reporter

VELLORE April 25 . The police yesterday released computer images of two culprits, who shot dead three persons — the owner and an employee of a jewellery shop in Main Bazaar here and a motorcycle-borne teacher at the Palace Cafe traffic junction in the heart of Vellore — and escaped on the vehicle on April 18.

The images pointed to the possibility of the culprits being in the age group 25-30, medium complexioned and 5.5-foot tall.

The images were drawn from a description given by the employees of the jewellery shop, who witnessed the owner, N. Srinivasan, being shot dead and his brothers, N. Rajendra Babu and N. Rajesh, being shot at from close range.

N. Rajasekharan, SP, Vellore, told The Hindu that posters of the computer images were pasted at bus stands and railway stations in Vellore district and sent to other districts throughout Tamil Nadu for display.

The posters were also sent to the Crime Records Bureau of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka for possible identification of the culprits from their dossiers.

On the double murder in the RMS Colony, Kazhinjur near Katpadi, where a 37-year-old housewife and her 12-year-old son were found strangled on Monday, Mr. Rajasekharan said six teams led by an Additional Superintendent of Police, two DSPs and three inspectors were formed to trace the culprits.

Some local suspects including ex-convicts were also being interrogated.
