An estimated two lakh Olive Ridleys had laid eggs on this beach between March 9 and 13. The hatching is expected to continue for another four or five days, according to Biswajit Mohanty of `Operation Kachhapa'. The volunteers of the Operation Kachhapa and the Forest Department guards were at hand to protect the eggs from predators such as dogs and jackals. A large number of eggs were lost in the sea due to beach erosion in the past few weeks.
