Haryana to strengthen irrigation system

CHANDIGARH APRIL 26. The Haryana Government will spend Rs.14 crores on repairing lined water courses to strengthen the irrigation system, according to the Chief Minister, Om Prakash Chautala.

He announced this at a meeting of Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police here last evening. The farmers would have to contribute Rs. 20 per acre to get the water courses repaired.

The officers were asked to ensure that people deposit their money in small saving schemes. The Government has fixed a target of Rs. 2,566 crores for making collections under these schemes.

The Chief Minister, who reviewed the power situation, directed the officials to improve the supply of power. He also said the State would soon have its own Wakf Board.

He said that copying in exams would be checked with a firm hand and, if required, a law would be enacted to curb this menace. Examination centres would be re-designated during the next session.
