India, Iran discuss Iraq situation

Dubai April 26. India and Iran today discussed bilateral relations and the situation in Iraq during talks between the visiting National Security Adviser, Brajesh Mishra and the Iranian Foreign Minister, Kamal Kharrazi.

Mr. Mishra appreciated Iran's ``constructive'' role in helping establish peace and stability in the region and said the Islamic Republic of Iran had given significant cooperation for restoration of peace and security in Afghanistan.

He called for regular consultations between the two countries on issues of mutual interest, official sources said.

Mr. Kharrazi said the Conference of Iraq's neighbours in Riyadh had had a positive outcome and that there was unanimity in the call for ceding the Iraqi affairs to the Iraqis themselves.

The Foreign Minister made it clear that Iran favoured a democratic Iraq and the formation of a multiethnic government in that country.

He said occupation and imposing one's will over a nation by force is contrary to international regulations.
