The Collector told The Hindu today that a medical team, led by Vadivelan, Deputy Director, Health Services, Tiruvannamalai, was camping at Chinna Pushpagiri and keeping a watch on the family members. Naso-pharyngeal swab and blood and urine samples of Mr. Ezhumalai were sent to the National Institute of Virology, Pune, for testing. The team, which examined the family members, did not find any of them suffering from cold, cough, fever or breathing difficulty. Meanwhile, Anand Job, Hospital Medical Superintendent, said Mr. Ezhumalai was admitted to the hospital on prior appointment on Thursday for diabetes treatment. Only because he returned a few days ago from Singapore, one of the SARS-affected countries, did the hospital take the precaution of sending the samples to the NIV. His condition was better and he had no fever.
