C.P. Radhakrishnan may replace Kirubanidhi

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI APRIL 26. In a crucial shake-up in the Tamil Nadu BJP, the Coimbatore MP, C.P. Radhakrishnan, is tipped to unanimously take over as the party's president next month.

The BJP national president, M. Venkiah Naidu, who was in the city today, is believed to have given the nod for elevation of Mr. Radhakrishnan from vice-presidentship. The present State BJP president, S.P. Kirubanidhi, will step down to pave way for the unanimous election of the Coimbatore MP at a party meeting on May 11, highly placed party sources said.

The Union Minister, Pon. Radhakrishnan, and the State BJP general secretary and MLA, H. Raja, were in the race for the State BJP leadership. While Mr. Pon Radhakrishnan lost out because he would have to quit his Ministership, Mr. Raja was considered too hostile to the DMK, a constituent of the National Democratic Alliance at the Centre.
