Letters to the Editor
Sir, This has reference to the Insight feature dwelling on the acts of preservation of heritage buildings and saving them from demolition ( April 20. ) Let us mourn what we have lost, not for the sake of shedding tears, but certainly for what we should never indulge in future. It would seem odd that even the Cellular Jail in the Andamans is not spared, but thank God, it has only been maimed. The Cellular Jail or the part of it that remains should be preserved for posterity. Thankfully, the growth of public interest in conservation and heritage issues, and the present QMC demolition issue have touched a deep public chord and become a catalyst for heightening public awareness.
