Letters to the Editor
Sir, The Prime Minister's statement in Srinagar that the Centre's talks with the Nagas were at a lower level and that why would the Hurriyat want to come down to that level was unfortunate. It would certainly have hurt the feelings of Nagas. Nagas are proud and sensitive and remain separated from the Indian mainstream for long. People of the northeast feel that people living in other States do not treat them well. This "outsider" feeling is prevalent in the minds of the people of these States. I was in Nagaland when a man asked, where I was from. When I said Mumbai, he exclaimed, ``India''! In general they think that India is a neighbouring country like Nepal or Bhutan.
