The BSE benchmark 30-share index which opened weak at 2909.42 and dropped to the day's low at 2904.44, later staged a smart recovery on selective buying and ended at 2936.71 against last Friday's close of 2924.03, netting a gain of 12.68 points. The broad-based BSE-100 index firmed up by 8.30 points to 1460.70 from 1452.40. Foreign institutional investors who have been net buyers during last week were believed to have made small purchases in a few counters. However, IT shares met with selling at higher levels and registered moderate losses at close. PTI
