Shanmuganathan surprises Himanshu

KOCHI APRIL 28. Tamil Nadu's R.Shanmuganathan jolted the top seed, former national under-18 champion Himanshu Sharma of Haryana in the third round of the B.C.Cochin all-India open FIDE-rated chess tournament at the Ernakulam YMCA International House here on Monday.

The second-seeded S.Maria Arul (Railway) also bit the dust, losing to J. Malleswara Rao in the upset-ridden third round.
