Kerala
By Anita Joshua
After last week's hectic parleys and subsequent public posturing by some senior Kerala leaders, Ms. Gandhi today took stock of the situation along with the AICC general secretary in charge of the State, Ambika Soni, and Gulam Nabi Azad and R. K. Dhawan, the two observers appointed to oversee the Rajya Sabha elections from the State which triggered the latest crisis within the faction-ridden Kerala unit of the party. Though the Central leadership refused to reveal its hand, there was considerable talk of `generosity' in dealing with the situation; a plea made by the senior leader, K. Karunakaran, and apparently seconded by his political rival and the Chief Minister, A.K. Antony, since the official candidates of the party had won the elections. Talking to mediapersons, Ms. Soni said: ``There is every reason to expect that the Congress president will be generous towards those who may have voted against the official candidates of the party for the Rajya Sabha elections.'' Whether this meant there would be no action, Ms. Soni was non-committal.
