Singapore-bound AI flights cancelled

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI APRIL 28. Air India cancelled its daily flights to Singapore till May 4 following pilots' refusal to fly to the ``Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome-hit destinations''.

AI sources here clarified that the largescale cancellation was only to Singapore and the services to the United States and the United Kingdom were ``still maintained as per schedule''.

Majority of the Gulf routes were operated under a rescheduled format not only by the AI independently, but under a code-share arrangement with the Indian Airlines from various Southern regional airports.

Meanwhile, the Union Minister of State for Health, A. Raja, who went to Maldives to attend the SAARC conference on SARS, told reporters at the airport here that he would explain the measures initiated by the Centre to prevent the spread of the disease.
