Telugu comes in handy for CM

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI APRIL 28. The Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa's fluency in Telugu came to the fore in the Assembly today.

When the Hosur MLA, K. Gopinath, of the Congress who used Tamil, Telugu and Kannada to make his points, wanted the Chief Minister respond to his demand for creation of a Telugu Academy, Ms. Jayalalithaa replied in Telugu that certain decisions had to be taken by the Cabinet.

However, she readily conceded two other pleas made by the MLA.

From the coming academic year, the Government would prepare question papers in Telugu for students, who took examinations in that language. Also, distributory channels of the Kelavarapalli dam would be desilted and repaired after ascertaining the actual position.
