LONDON: Prince William feels that his "coming of age" in June is a private affair and has rejected plans to mark it with a charity pop concert. He told friends that a pop concert, similar to last year's Party at the Palace for the Queen's jubilee, risked overshadowing what was principally a private day. He has twice turned down approaches from palace officials over the concert plan, and has his own plans to mark the event. While he acknowledged the public nature of the events surrounding his grandmother's 50 years on the throne last year, Prince William insisted his birthday was a personal landmark. Public celebrations would make nonsense of his determination to avoid regular royal duties until after he finishes his studies at St. Andrews University in two years. His uncompromising stance has the support of his father. ANI
