Mr. Thimmappa told presspersons that five persons from SARS-affected areas who had complained of fever and throat ache were admitted to private hospitals and discharged after screening. Mr. Thimmappa said the number of international travellers screened at the crisis management cell of the SARS surveillance unit at Bangalore Airport from April 9 to 26 was 3,208. A further 988 persons were screened outside Bangalore. Facilities for handling SARS cases had been provided at SDS Institute of Chest Diseases and TB Sanatorium on Old Madras Road, apart from six private institutions Mallya Hospital, Manipal Hospital, St. John's Hospital, Sagar Apollo Hospital, Mallige Hospital, and Jain Hospital. To a question, Mr. Thimmappa said in view of complaints against the Drugs Controller, an IAS officer had been posted in place of the existing officer. The lapses noticed, particularly in relation to inspection, were being set right. About the offer of talks by managements of unaided professional colleges on admission and fee structure, Mr. Thimmappa, who also holds the Information portfolio, said the Government had come to a decision and issued a notification. Action would be taken against those who violated it.
