Vellore killers used foreign pistol?

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI APRIL 29. The weapon used by the culprits to kill three persons after committing a robbery at a Vellore jewellery showroom is suspected to be of foreign origin. Investigation shows the pistol belongs to the 7.62-mm category and is believed to have been obtained from abroad, a senior police officer told The Hindu. At present, only 9-mm pistols were being legally manufactured in the country. There was no information with the police about anyone possessing of the foreign-made weapon in the past.

DMK criticism

Meanwhile, the DMK president, M. Karunanidhi, today criticised that the killers were not nabbed even after 10 days of the crime, though district authorities had said they would be arrested the same day of the incident.

In a statement here, he listed the incidents of robbery, murder, murder for gain and theft which had occured in various parts of the State in one week from April 18, and criticised the AIADMK Government.
