Basu John dead

Chennai April 29. Basu John Vetteth, Managing Partner of Klein and Peyerl, died on Monday night after a brief illness. Dr. John, who studied optics in Germany and held a doctorate from the IIT, Madras, started his career as a reader in the IIT before taking up the business of photography and block making.

He also entered the field of information technology and set up a consulting firm in the area, Mindspace.

He was a keen photographer and conservationist committed to wider social causes. He visited Gujarat soon after the Bhuj earthquake and later organised an exhibition of his photographs of the disaster to raise money for the weavers and craftspersons who lost their livelihood. He is survived by a son and a daughter.
