Radio City offers a bigger slice of Bollywood

By Our Special Correspondent

Bangalore April 29. Radio City, the first private FM radio station to be set up in the country, has revamped its programming.

From this week, 91 FM will pay hit Hindi music all day long, with Western music slotted only after 10 p.m. There will be other new shows for listeners, including Bollywood news.

Sumantra Dutta, COO of Radio Division, Star India, says Radio City is constantly upgrading programming, catering to the widest possible section of listeners. "Radio City programming is based on extensive research and listener feedback,'' he adds.

On weekdays, listeners can start their day with `Josh 91', a breakfast show from 7 a.m. hosted by Sunaina and Darius, with discussions on issues, interviews with personalities, listeners' opinions, and music. At 11 a.m., catch RJ Seetal with a brand new matinee show that features `Lunch Order', where listeners can call during their lunch break and place an order for their favourite `golden oldie' number. Other Hindi requests will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on `Radio City Mangta Hai'.

City events

At 4 p.m., Priya Ganapathy hosts `SimpliCity', a light-hearted and relaxed show that takes you through events in the city. Route 91 is hosted by Chaitanya Hegde at 6 p.m., and is for Bollywood news, reviews, and interviews.

For all international music buffs, there is `Gurkha Shift' with Rohit Barker at 10 p.m. for the latest hits and inside take on the music world.

`Masti 91'

Chill out on weekends with Saturday mornings featuring `Masti 91' with interviews, bizarre opinions, and weekend happenings. `Dhoom Pichak Dhoom', hosted by Gaurav Kapur, showcases the definitive Top 40 countdown of Hindi and Indipop hits at 5 p.m.

On Sunday mornings, you can plug into `Chow Chow Baat', a mix of the sweet and sour side of Bangalore, followed by `Full Meals' at noon with RJ Seetal Iyer. Fans of `Sister Stella', the resident medico-music consultant, can rejoice because now she has her own show. She will prescribe melodies for all maladies every Sunday evening at 4 p.m.

`Big Mouth' at 6 p.m., followed by `Back to Back Hits' at 7 p.m. and the `Retro Show' with Priya Ganapathy at 10 p.m. are other weekend shows. Radio City also provides weather and traffic updates, in addition to information about events on weekdays.
