73-year-old man foils robbery bid

BANGALORE April 29. A 73-year-old man, P. Selvan, foiled an attempt by an armed gang to break into his house on CII Road in Byadarahalli on Monday night.

Police said Mr. Selvan, his wife, and daughter-in-law were asleep at about 1 a.m. when the gangsters tried to break in through the front door using boulders. He rushed to the front door and put himself behind it. Meanwhile, he used his mobile phone to call his neighbours and relatives. When they rushed to the house and raised an alarm, the gangsters fled.

Senior police officials visited the spot. Bangalore Rural police have begun a search for the gangsters.

Elderly woman robbed

Four men broke into the house of Sharadamma (65) on New BEL Road in Tavarekere police station limits, and robbed her of Rs. 3,500 in cash and gold jewellery on Monday night.

Police said the robbers broke open a door with a boulder to gain entry into the house. Shardamma was alone at the time. Her daughter, a schoolteacher in Rajajinagar, filed a complaint with the police.

2 men run over by train

Two men were run over by trains in separate incidents in the Bangalore City Railway police limits on Monday. They have not been identified.

The body of a 27-year-old man was found on the railway track near Binny Mills Circle, and that of a 28-year-old man on the track near Okhalipuram.

Held for vehicle theft

R.T. Nagar police have arrested Jaikar (19) of Madiwala Muniyappa Compound, and recovered two stolen two-wheelers worth about Rs. 70,000. The vehicles were stolen from Madiwala and R.T. Nagar police limits, according to police.

The accused was reportedly nabbed by beat constables on Deve Gowda Road on Monday.

Arrested for burglary

Rajagopalnagar police have arrested two persons for burglary, and recovered household articles worth about Rs. 15,000 from them.

Police say the accused, Anil Kumar (19) and Vijikumar (23), stole the goods from a house in Rajagopalnagar.
