'Unilateral U.S.'

Sir, __ I refer to your Editorial `Unilateral U.S.' ( April 26 ). Soon after ending the Iraqi war against Kuwait, the U.N. Security Council imposed sanctions on Iraq. The sanction was initiated at the behest of the U.S. on its suspicion that Iraq was in the possession of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD). After the recent war of destruction, the U.S. itself has decided to lift the sanctions.

An inspection team, headed by Hans Blix, has declared that Iraq does not possess WMD. After the war, the U.S. could not find any evidence of WMD in Iraq. The rest of the world should deprecate the unilateral action of the U.S. of lifting the sanctions. Unless, the United Nations breaks its silence, the U.S will become a `universal authority' for invading any country at its chosen time. It is the time for rest of the world to rein in the U.S.-supremacy.

V.S. Sankaran,
Madurai, T.N.
