6 Al-Qaeda men including Yemeni held in Pak.

By B. Muralidhar Reddy

ISLAMABAD APRIL 30 . In yet another sensational operation, Pakistan claimed to have captured six suspected Al-Qaeda operatives including a Yemeni man allegedly involved in the October 2000 bombing of the USS Cole. The Yemeni, Waleed Mohammed Bin Attash, who is also known as Khalid al-Attash, is wanted by America in connection with the USS Cole attack that left17 American sailors dead. The arrests were reportedly made in two simultaneous raids conducted by Pakistani law-enforcement officers. Authorities also recovered 330 pounds of explosives and a large quantity of arms and ammunitions ''intended to be used for terrorist attacks,'' said a statement by the National Crisis Management Cell, which oversees anti-terrorist activities. "The recovered items indicate the magnitude of the terrorist attack if it was implemented," the statement said. While Pakistan has reasons to be happy over the arrests, the flip side to it is the fact that so many suspected Al-Qaeda operatives have not only managed to sneak into the country but also found shelter.
