India elected to UNHRC

New Delhi April 30. India has been elected to the United Nations Human Rights Commission (UNHRC) for a two-year period from 2004, securing the highest number of votes among the countries elected from the Asian region.

India's election ``is a recognition of her strong commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights,'' an External Affairs Ministry statement said.

India has also been elected to the Commission on Narcotics and Drugs, Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, executive board of the World Food Programme and the governing council of UN HABITAT. — PTI
