Letters to the Editor
Sir, This is with reference to the report `Compensation for Uphaar victims' ( April 25 ). The Delhi High Court has found the Delhi police, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the Delhi Vidyut Board and the Ansals, proprietors of Uphaar cinema, guilty of the tragedy. In most of our cinemas, safety measures are completely neglected and building bylaws overlooked. The public should be informed of the dates of inspections, the defects noticed, the rectifications done and the condition and safety of the cinemas and the particulars should be displayed at the entrance of the hall.
K. Satyanarayana,
Sir, This has reference to your Editorial `Paying for public safety' ( April 28 ). Apart from cinema halls and office buildings, there is urgent need for fire safety and other security steps in multi-storeyed residential complexes. Flat promoters who neglect the safety norms should be punished. In addition to basic fire safety precautions, an all-time efficient security evening day time is essential because of the burglaries.
K. Ramamurthi,
