Letters to the Editor
Sir, The Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee's whimsical "willingness" to engage Pakistan in a dialogue and then " not accepting the invitation to visit the country " as there is "no right atmosphere" is inexplicable. On the other hand, Pakistan's policy appears more streamlined. Sports and economic ties are the viable and time-tested starting points. It was the "ping-pong" diplomacy which thawed the frozen relations between the U.S. and China. Economic prosperity did the same between Germany and France after the Second World War. Not only sports, Pakistan should also grant the Most-Favoured Nation status to India.
Himanshu Kumar Singh,
Sir, Your Editorial `Seize the moment' ( April 29 ) shows the sense of urgency with which the Kashmir issue should be dealt with. Any reluctant attitude will provide the U.S an opportunity to demand a military base in India on the pretext of maintaining peace. The two neighbours should seize this moment in order to prevent the self-styled global policeman from dominating South Asia.
Abhishek Singh,
