Ms. Menon told The Hindu that the CBI filed a closure petition before the Special Court, Bangalore, in April this year and handed over the documents taken from her possession on April 30. The raid was conducted to investigate certain "irregularities and mala fide action" by Ms. Menon when she was the Chief Commissioner. She retired from service in June 2000 after serving as the Chief Commissioner for four years, and the raid was conducted 10 months after her retirement. She said though the raid was totally unjustified, she did not contest the issue in court. She said: "As a seasoned administrator with a record of honesty and integrity, both with the Union Government and with the KERC, I wanted the CBI to investigate the case and find out for themselves, the baseless nature of the allegations against me." She added: "With regard to the procedure followed by CBI, I must say that the action of the State Government bureaucracy, which was then headed by a woman Chief Secretary, and particularly the readiness of the Under Secretary for Home and Transport, who issued the approval for the search, was deplorable."
