Schools to have playground facilities

Pondicherry May 1. The Education Minister, K. Lakshminarayanan, has said that all government schools in the Union Territory of Pondicherry would have playgrounds in a phased manner.

Distributing prizes to students proficient at the three-day school level sports and games championships conducted by the Department of Education at Uppalam near here on Wednesday, he said the government was spending Rs. 6 crores every year for promotion of sports activities in schools. Students participating in events in other States would get a travelling allowance of Rs. 80 against Rs. 40 paid so far.

Ten institutions would be equipped with modern equipment for gymnasium.
