Trade unions to observe bandh on May 21

Pondicherry May 1 . A Joint meeting of trade unions held here on Wednesday decided to observe bandh in Pondicherry on May 21 in response to a call for a nation-wide strike given by the trade unions on that day, to protest the policies of the BJP-led NDA Government in the Centre, the Secretary of the AITUC, Ponniah said here today.

The Secretary of the AITUC Ponnaiah said here today that the meeting was chaired by the former Agriculture Minister and CPI National Council member, R. Viswanathan and addressed among others by N.Kalainathan (CPI) V Perumal (CITU), J.Natarajan (AICCTU), M.Jayachandran (UTUC) and representatives of organisations of the Central government and also women`s and students wings of different political parties.

To mobilise people`s cooperation the organising committee members would hold propaganda meetings in Pondicherry and Karaikal for three days from May 17 and a seminar would be held on May 5 to explain the need for the agitation.
