Civil Services results a boost for CCDS

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM May 2. With the State registering a creditable performance at the all India Civil Services examination conducted in October-November 2002, the city-based Centre for Career Development Studies (CCDS) is sitting proud.

As many as eight candidates who underwent training at the CCDS, a Government-sponsored organisation with the District Collector as chairman, have secured high ranks in the prestigious examination.

One of them Aswathy S., besides winning the third rank at the national level, has been adjudged the topper among women candidates who had appeared for the civil services examination this time.

Besides Aswathy, Shaila A. from Aluva of Ernakulam district, who has secured the 49th rank, is also likely to get into the IAS, according to Pennamma Jose, the member Secretary of the CCDS. Talking to The Hindu over telephone from her house at Aranmula of Pathanamthitta district, Aswathy said she would be opting the Indian Administrative Service.

She had done her schooling in the Malayalam medium in an ordinary school in Chengannur and went on to win the first rank in M.A. Economics from the Madras Christian College, Chennai. Her optional subject was Economics and Malayalam.

Shaila, like Aswathy, is also a first rank holder in M.A. Economics, but from the Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. Her optionals were Economics and Public Administration.

Shefeen Ahamed (rank 156) and Sayeed Rashid (rank 242) are likely to be selected to the IPS, as both belong to minority community, the CCDS sources informed.

The former is a B.Tech in Civil Engineering and his optional subjects for the civil services examination were Sociology and Geography. Shefeen had also been a member of the Kerala State school cricket team.

Sayeed is a post- graduate in Law even though his optionals were Economics and Malayalam literature.

Sudheesh V.C. who secured the 135th rank is presently employed in New Delhi.

Reghuraj M.R. (rank 143) has a B.Tech degree in Electronics and Communication. Psychology and Public Administration were his optional subjects. Chintha Anna Issac (rank 152), a third rank holder in B.Arch degree examination of the Kerala University, had chosen Sociology and Geography as her electives.

Another first rank holder in M.A. Economics (Kerala University) is Preethi Abraham, who has been ranked 168 in the civil service examination. Besides Economics, Public Administration was her optional subject.
