Parliament approves Electricity Bill

NEW DELHI MAY 5. Parliament today approved the long-awaited Electricity Bill setting in motion far-reaching reforms in the power sector by encouraging competition, rationalising power tariff and ensuring a transparent policy regarding subsidies.

The Bill, pending over three years, got the parliamentary nod after the Rajya Sabha passed it by a voice vote.

The Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha on April 9.
