Cricket
By P. Subramanyam
The 36-year-old Hooper is available to play county cricket in England after he announced that would not play for the West Indies in the home series against Australia. Thus, Hooper may be with Lancashire for about five weeks and could play on Friday when Lancashire meets Middlesex. Hooper played for Kent in 1998, scoring 1,218 runs, including six centuries, and taking 31 wickets. Harbhajan Singh had agreed to join Lancashire for the 2003 season, but because of his injury sustained during the recent one-day tournament in Bangladesh it is still uncertain when he will arrive in Manchester.
Yuvraj for Yorkshire
Yorkshire County Cricket Club, meanwhile, is poised to announce the signing of Indian batsman Yuvraj Singh. The 21-year-old left-hander, son of former Test cricketer Yograj Singh, will arrive in England next week and is set for a four-month stay at Headingley. Yuvraj said, "I am thrilled with the offer and I think it will be a great experience.''
