"The President has asked me if I would serve again as his running mate. I've agreed to do that," Mr. Cheney has told The Dallas Morning News in an interview. If there was some speculation on the subject it was on account of the Vice-President's health for he has had four heart attacks but none during the time of his serving in the present capacity. "I've got a doc with me 24 hours a day who watches me very carefully. If I ran into problems where I felt I couldn't serve, I'd be the first to say so and step down," Mr.Cheney remarked. Not too long ago, Mr. Bush said that Mr. Cheney would indeed be his running mate for 2004. "There's no reason for me to change," Mr. Bush remarked last November. In 2000, Mr. Cheney started off as being Mr. Bush's head of the Search Commission on the Running Mate and ended up in the position himself. In the last two years, Mr. Cheney has been a powerful voice within the administration in matters of foreign and domestic policy. But there is no word on when Mr. Bush will announce formally that he is a Republican candidate for the coming Presidential election.
