Letters to the Editor
Sir, We are quite enthusiastic about the thaw in Indo-Pak. relations. We seem to be forgetting the deep malady underlying the animosity between the two countries. President Musharraf has his limitations and an agenda, and he can walk only a short distance. The underlying cause for the constant flux in our relationship is mutual distrust. Till the people of Pakistan feel that they and the Muslims in India are safe, the relationship will never improve. We must act and behave in such a way that our Muslim brothers here feel secure and that alone would send the right signals to Pakistan.
Prabhakara Rao,
* * * Sir, Strong sentiments exist between India and Pakistan. The Agra summit was reduced to a one-upmanship game. The recent statement by the Pakistan Prime Minister, Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali, was mature and reassuring. The fallout of the Iraq war has created the right environment for a breakthrough in our mutual relations and let us welcome the opportunity. Divisive politics are the cause for the strong hatred between the countries. Effective remedial policies and responsible leadership are called for.
Shashikant Singh,
