Letters to the Editor
Sir, In his article `Sangh Parivar Prevarications' ( May 8 ), Surendra Mohan has committed certain factual errors. He says the Bharatiya Jan Sangh was formed in 1951 in violation of the word the RSS had given to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel that it would not engage in political activities. The RSS never gave any pledge to the Government. Guruji at a reception accorded to him on his release said that accepting any preconditions would have been an insult to the organisation he was heading. As for Swayamsevaks taking part in political activities, they have been given freedom by the RSS constitution to join any political party of their choice provided that political party neither believes in violence nor has any extra-territorial loyalties. R. Vannia Rajan, Madurai, T.N.
