Minister's son shot dead

GUWAHATI MAY 12. In the continuing Hmar-Dimasa ethnic conflict, Narmendu Langthasa (35), son of the Assam Hill Areas Development Minister, Govinda Chandra Langthasa, was shot dead by suspected Hmar militants today at Haflong, headquarters of the North Cachar Hills District.

A 48-hour curfew has been clamped in the town. Police have picked up about 20 Hmars for interrogation and recovered a large quantity of bombs and firearms.
