Fencing starts on LoC

By Our Staff Reporter

Rajouri May 13. Fencing operations on the Line Control in Jammu and Kashmir have been started to "plug'' porous infiltration routes. These are the main infiltration routes for the militants entering the Indian territory from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Unlike the fencing operations on the 187 km Indo-Pakistan international border, that on the 260 km Line of Control of the Jammu region is much different.

The Border Security Force has been entrusted with the task of fencing operations on the international border, whereas the Army is in charge on the LoC.

The proposal is to fence every inch on the international border in two to three years and already 70 km has been fenced. On the other hand, only porous infiltration routes at the LoC are being fenced by barbed wire as it is impossible to fence every inch. Fencing the whole of the LoC of the State is impossible as it comprises huge terrain, high passes, hills and ravines.
